They shouted when I stepped on their feet but
they couldn’t see that I was dancing
Spinning so fast, I could not hear the wails
Drowned out by a heartbeat
Louder than anything else.
My arms have been outstretched in
a twirl for as long as I can recall
I forgot what it’s like to flower the wall.
and I wonder how it was before I
wore skin. I wonder
if the song was the same back then.
Sure, somedays the gravity drags,
brings me to my knees but even
then my foot is tapping, holding the beat.
And I know the Dance does not
follow the demand of
the one way street.
Round and round we go,
clothed in the rainbow of
a multi-colored coat. Here where
my name is lovely and rare.
Here where the earth comes alive. Here
where we are all dancing.
